We’re just two weeks into the new year, and the devastation is hard to comprehend. On New Year’s Eve, New Orleans was rocked by an alleged terrorist attack that left many grieving and in shock. Before we even had time to process that, wildfires swept through Los Angeles, destroying homes and uprooting lives.
And it’s not just the collective heartbreak—we’ve all been navigating personal storms too. For me, the year began with testing positive for COVID, a humbling reminder of how fragile our plans and health can be. I also made the difficult decision to walk away from a friendship that began to cause more harm than good on top of grieving the potential loss of my number once source of entertainment, TikTok, as it faces an uncertain future.
It’s easy to feel like the ground beneath us is shifting, but even in these moments, I’m reminded of a truth that anchors me: God is sovereign.
The word “sovereign” speaks to God’s ultimate authority and control over everything. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” This verse reminds me that no matter what I face—no matter how chaotic or heartbreaking life feels—God is weaving it all together for good.
His sovereignty doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but it does mean He’s always in control. He sees the bigger picture we can’t, and He’s working in ways we may never fully understand.
Even in the heartbreak of these first two weeks, I’ve seen God’s faithfulness in so many ways. I celebrated another year of life—a gift I don’t take for granted. I was invited to be a guest on a podcast, which gave me the chance to share my story and encourage others. And I launched a new fragrance that feels deeply personal to me, reflecting God’s sovereignty in every detail.
These moments, though small compared to the greater challenges we’re facing as a nation and in our personal lives, remind me of who God is. He is good, faithful, and unchanging, even when life feels unpredictable.
Trusting God’s sovereignty isn’t about ignoring pain or pretending everything is fine. It’s about acknowledging the reality of heartbreak and uncertainty while choosing to believe that God is in control. It’s about surrendering our fears, our plans, and even our grief to Him, trusting that He can redeem and restore what feels broken.
As I navigate these challenges, I’m leaning into His character—His faithfulness, His goodness, and His ability to turn ashes into beauty. I’m learning to rest in the truth that He’s not distant or indifferent. He’s present, working behind the scenes, and holding everything together.
In moments like this, I reflect on the ways God has been faithful in my life, and I’d love to hear how He’s shown up in yours. What has He done for you already this year? How are you leaning into His sovereignty during this challenging season?
Let’s encourage one another as we hold on to this truth: no matter what we face, God is sovereign. He is trustworthy, and He is working all things together for good.
